How to Prepare for your Nature Tour Experience

Question: What should I bring? We recommend a hat, sun block, bug spray, water and snacks for all activities. If you are going on a hike you may want a hiking stick and definitely closed toed shoes. If you are kayaking water shoes are fine. Don’t forget a camera and binoculars too.

Question: What if I haven’t kayaked before? Don’t worry if you haven’t kayaked before. Our staff is there to make sure you have a great experience and nothing less. We will take the time you need and stay close by to assist as needed. Besides I want to get my kayak back too!

Question: Will I get wet? Welcome to Florida. If you don’t like the weather now wait five minutes and it will change. I bring zip-lock baggies to protect some stuff. The trick is to leave what you can in the car. It’s best.

Question: Can I bring my pet? The areas we visit are wild natural places. Depending on our location pets are not allowed by law. It is also illegal (and cruel) to leave them in a vehicle.

Question: How deep is the water where we kayak? In most cases you can stand up (but I recommend staying in the kayak). It just looks deep because of the color of the water. So far I have not had anyone tip a kayak yet. Please don’t be the first.

Question: Do you provide cameras for the Photo Tour? No I’m sorry! The whole idea for this tour is for you to get to know how to better use your camera. We just throw in a professional photographer. It adds to the fun.

Question: If we do the tour with the archaeologist are we allowed to keep anything to take home? Only informational hand-outs that our archaeologist prepares for you. Everything else is protected by law and ethics. After all it’s been there a long time already no sense moving it around now.

Question: What kind of birds will we see on the birding tours? That depends on what environment we are in, what time of the year and what time of day it is. Some of the birds commonly sighted include egrets, herons, osprey, bald eagles, white ibis, cormorants and anhingas. Wildlife is dictated by cycles: food and habitat just to name a few. We are proud of the staff we have at Eco-Quest and most people are quite pleased with the birds we see.
